Lindsey Wilson has been named a Goldwater Scholar in recognition of her outstanding undergraduate research. For over two years, she has conducted research on phage folding in the lab of Nicholas Noinaj, an associate professor of biology. In addition, she was a summer intern at the NIH. Her research and leadership in the area of genetic mutation and disorders continue to impress her professors and colleagues.
“Little is known about the impact of many mutations involved in genetic disorders,” she said. “I aspire to fill the gaps in our knowledge by drawing connections between the mutations and the symptoms of the genetic diseases.”
Wilson is widely involved around campus outside of the lab as well. She serves as an undergraduate mentor for the Purdue Women in Science organization. She was the principal flautist/piccolo player for the Purdue Concert Band for a year. She is also a team leader for the Purdue Latin and Ballroom Dance club and participates in dance competitions.
